Former Liberian Ambassador to the United States, Ambassador Rachel Diggs has established a multi-focused, cervical and uterine cancer screening program in Maryland County, Liberia targeting women between ages 25-64, for improved access to health services. Cummings Africa Foundation (CAF) was selected by Ambassador Diggs as the implementing partner and facilitator for the program. This is an effort to address critical health needs in a part of the country with extremely limited access to quality healthcare.

Clinical services are being provided through the J.J. Dossen Hospital and Pleebo Health Center under the medical supervision of Dr. Sarah Anyango, Obstetrician and Gynecologist, and one of Liberia’s leading women’s health advocates.

The goals of the program are to:

  1. Introduce cervical cancer screening and treatment services in Harper and Pleebo, Maryland County.
  2. Increase awareness on reproductive organ cancers.
  3. Reduce the number of women who develop cervical and uterine cancers through early detection.
  4. Establish a patient referral network that facilitates care for those in advanced stages of the disease.
  5. Introduce palliative care services to patients with terminal illness.
